Director's Message
National Institute of Technology Andhra Pradesh was established as the 31st NIT by the Ministry of Education after the bifurcation of united Andhra Pradesh and it started functioning from 20th August, 2015 in Sri Vasavi Engineering College Campus, Tadepalligudem with NIT Warangal as its mentor Institute (the youngest NIT is mentored by the oldest NIT). In August 2015, the foundation stone of NIT Andhra Pradesh was laid by the then union minister Smt. Smrithi Irani in the presence of our chief guest (the then union minister for urban development) Shri. Venkaiah Naidu. The Institute was given an initial student strength of 480, which spreads over eight engineering departments with 90 each for circuit branches (CSE, ECE and EEE), 60 each for Civil and Mechanical, and 30 each for Chemical, Biotechnology, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. To support these branches, we have two schools - School of Sciences and School of Humanities & Management.
I, C.S.P. Rao, took charge as the first Director of NIT Andhra Pradesh on 22nd March, 2018. The logo of NIT Andhra Pradesh was designed based on the significance of this place and purpose and it was unveiled by Shri. Madan Mohan, ADG (H.E) MHRD, in June 2018. The first cycle of permanent faculty recruitment was conducted in June 2018 and thirty-two faculty members were selected. In the second phase of recruitment held in September 2019, twenty-four faculty members were selected. Sixty-seven regular non-teaching staff were appointed in May, 2019. M/s. B.G. Shirke was given contract by CPWD in August 2018 to build the permanent campus. All eight departments of engineering offer B.Tech programs. From the present academic year, we started Ph.D. & MS programs (full time and part time). Currently 51 regular faculty, 55 ad hoc faculty, 65 regular non-teaching staff and 150 outsourcing staff are serving the Institute. The 1st Convocation Ceremony is celebrated on 24th December, 2019 for which the Honourable Vice President of India, Shri. M. Venkaiah Naidu is the Chief Guest and the Honourable Governor of Andhra Pradesh, Shri Biswabhusan Harichandan was the Guest of Honour. 379 out of 383 under graduate students received their degrees. The Phase 1A buildings were inaugurated by the Honourable Minister of Education Shri. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on 27th October 2020.
NIT Andhra Pradesh is spread over an area of 172 acres beside the Chennai-Kolkata NH-16 in Tadepalligudem. The State Government has supported in the construction of a boundary wall and a gate and has provided the supply of water and electricity. The construction of the buildings of this nascent campus is carried out in three phases with the grants provided by HEFA-MHRD. Currently, all our offices are being operated in the buildings constructed under Phase – IA, in the permanent campus. The campus is well connected with Tadepalligudem railway station, Gannavaram international airport, and Rajahmundry airport.
Currently, the campus has Academic Complex, Lab Complex, Workshops, Guest House, Faculty Quarters, and Staff Quarters. Hostels for boys and girls accommodate around 2000 students (1S+2S+4S). Amenities like mess for boys and girls and Dokka Seethamma canteen are made ready for students. Two MBT (Mechanical Biological Treatment) technology-based sewage treatment plants, about 200 KLD each, are yet to get completed. The whole campus is planned in such a way to make it green in all aspects. The campus is made a plastic free zone.
The Institute also provides sports amenities like running track, tennis court, basketball court, volleyball court, football court, and cricket ground. Landscaping and horticultural works are in progress alongside roads and buildings.
I am sure that our students will carry the flag ship of NIT AP to greater heights applying their knowledge and leadership in various industrial and R&D domains and will stand as responsible and dedicated technocrats in the Nation Building.
Jai hind.
